What I Watched Last Week (July 13-19, 2020)
What I Watched Last Week is a weekly feature on this blog. Every Monday, I’ll recap the TV, film and sports action I consumed over the past seven days. It will include my thoughts and links for more info.
MONDAY
TV: Match Game (Season 5, Ep 5, ABC). Might be my favorite game show on TV right now.
TV: Desus & Mero (Season 2, Ep 32, Showtime)
TV: I’ll Be Gone In the Dark (Docuseries, Ep 3, HBO). Still with this. But it didn’t need to be six episodes.
TV: I May Destroy You (Season 1, Ep 6, HBO)
TV: Perry Mason (Season 1, Ep 4, HBO)
TUESDAY
TV: Yellowstone (Season 3, Ep 4, Paramount). Kelly Reilly does always does amazing work here.
TV: Pose (Season 2, Ep 6, Netflix)*
TV: The Office (Season 3, Ep 12, Netflix)*
TV: America’s Got Talent (Season 15, Ep 7, NBC)
TV: Greenleaf (Season 5, Ep 5, OWN)
WEDNESDAY
TV: Pose (Season 2, Eps 7-10, Netflix)*. Finished for the second time. Brilliant. One of the best TV dramas in the world. Period.
THURSDAY
Movie: The Old Guard (2020, Netflix original drama). I’m still up for anything Charlize Theron wants to do. She’s such badass. And a sequel is definitely called for. Love this article. Roger Ebert: 3.5 stars (out of 4). Jason Creates: 3 stars (out of 4).
Movie: Showbiz Kids (2020, HBO/Max original doc). A fascinating watch. RIP, Cameron Boyce.
Special: The Fosters virtual pilot table read (2020, EW.com) Benefitting The Actors Fund, this event made me HAPPY. I love the cast. Sherri Saum and Teri Polo knew their lines by heart. Plus, cameos from Rosie O’Donnell, Annie Potts and Lorraine Toussaint. And that theme song. Heaven.
TV: Full Frontal with Samantha Bee (July 15 Ep, TBS)
TV: The Bold Type (Season 4, Ep 16, Freeform). Season finale?! I had no idea. Poor Sutton. And what are you doing, Kat?
FRIDAY
TV: Desus & Mero (Season 2, Ep 33, Showtime)
Special: 30 Rock: A One-Time Special (NBC.com). I shouldn’t have spent time on this, but I did. I missed Jenna. I haven’t started using Peacock TV yet, but I will soon.
TV: The Real Housewives of NYC (Season 12, Ep 14, Bravo)
TV: Central Park (Season 1, Ep 9, Apple TV+). I don’t want this season to end.
TV: Little Voice (Season 1, Ep 4, Apple TV+)
TV: ER (Season 11, Ep 18, Hulu)
SATURDAY
TV: ER (Season 11, Eps 19-22, Hulu). Carter has left the building. What an actor, character and performance for more than a decade. Thank you, Noah Wyle.
Movie: Greyhound (2020, Apple TV+ original drama). Tom Hanks, AKA America’s Dad, makes the Most Dad Movie of all Dad Movies. I liked it, especially its length (a crisp 91 minutes). Some faces on the ship I recognized: Josh Wiggins and Lee Norris. Roger Ebert: 2 stars (out of 4). Jason Creates: 3 stars (out of 4).
SUNDAY
TV: ER (Season 12, Eps 1-2, Hulu)
TV: The Chi (Season 3, Ep 5, Showtime)
TV: Black Monday (Season 2 , Ep 10, Showtime). Season finale — good. I don’t care about this show anymore. It was fun while it lasted.
