What I Watched Last Week (July 6-12, 2020)

Nowadays, there’s an abundance of content to keep up with when it comes to TV and movies. I try my best, whether it’s broadcast, basic cable, premium cable, streamers, web series, video on demand … you get my point. I’m not going to theaters at the moment (I do miss it), so there’s that. This will be a weekly blog feature. Here are my notes for July 6-12, 2020:

MONDAY

TV: The Office (Season 3, Ep 10, Netflix)*. Savoring one episode per week. But I have to admit, the series hasn’t aged well.
TV: Perry Mason (Season 1, Ep 3, HBO). Bleh. I like Matthew Rhys, but this really feels like homework.
TV: I May Destroy You (Season 1, Ep 5, HBO). Just keeps getting better and better.

TUESDAY

TV: Twenties (Season 1, Eps 1-8, Showtime). NEW SERIES ALERT. From Lena Waithe and originally on BET, it’s fun and breezy. I enjoyed it.
TV: Greenleaf (Season 5, Ep 4, OWN)

WEDNESDAY

TV: ER (Season 11, Eps 11-17, Hulu). The methodical binge (one episode per day) is going strong.

THURSDAY

TV: Desus & Mero (Season 2, Ep 31, Showtime). They’re the best.

FRIDAY

TV: The Bold Type (Season 4, Ep 15, Freeform)
TV: The Real Housewives of New York City (Season 12, Ep 13, Bravo)
TV: Central Park (Season 1, Ep 8, Apple TV+). The music is so great.

SATURDAY

TV: Little Voice (Season 1, Eps 1-3, Apple TV+). NEW SERIES ALERT. All you have to say: Sara Bareilles. Original music. Dramedy. I’m there.
Movie: Palm Springs (2020, Hulu). Andy Samberg is charming as always, but Cristin Milioti steals the flick. And a tremendous supporting cast. JK Simmons AND Peter Gallagher. Roger Ebert: 3.5 stars (out of four). Jason Creates: 4 stars (out of 4).
TV: Pose (Season 2, Ep 3-5, Netflix)*. There are so many Emmy-worthy performances in these episodes, some of the best drama entries in the past year. I heart this show so much.

SUNDAY

Movie: Hamilton (1st half, Disney+)*. I stan Leslie Odom Jr. and Renee Elise Goldsberry. What can’t they do?
TV: The CHI (Season 3, Ep 4, Showtime)
TV: Black Monday (Season 2, Ep 9, Showtime)
TV: P-Valley (Season 1, Ep 1, STARZ). NEW SERIES ALERT. Not sure I’ll stick with this, but the pilot was intriguing,
TV: Celebrity Family Feud (Season 6, Ep. 5, ABC)
Movie: The Outpost (2020, VOD). Set during the Afgahanistan War, an intense, relentless ride from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat for two hours. Imagine being there. Favorite performances comes from Orlando Bloom and Caleb Landry Jones. Roger Ebert: 3 stars (out of 4). Jason Creates: 3.5 stars (out of 4).
